Background
Colleagues from various departments consistently request specific system redesigns, primarily focusing on revising the UI, believing it will resolve issues related to poor UX. However, developers often overlook the broader context, leading to inefficiencies and fragmented solutions.
Goal
Enhance colleagues' awareness of UI and UX principles.

Participant growth
The UI/UX workshop concluded successfully, with participants recognizing the importance of collaboration between users, developers, and designers throughout a project's lifecycle. Also, there was a strong consensus among the attendees that interactive workshop fostered an environment conducive to creative thinking and brainstorming.
Main challenge
Varied UX proficiency
Due to the participants coming from various units and the unclear understanding of their UI/UX skills, this diversity presents a significant challenge in organizing a workshop that is both suitable and engaging for all attendees.
Engagement Barriers
The participants' non-interactive cultural background made it difficult to encourage active participation and engagement in workshop activities, requiring strategies to foster a more open and interactive environment.
Activity
Encourage Interaction
Hybrid Learning
Collaborate
Given that the participants are novices in UI and UX, and come from a cultural background not typically involved in interactive practices, the principles above guided my workshop design. I have been focusing in the open session where participants rate their UX understanding on a scale from 1 to 10 while also asking tutors for assistance during the progress.
Icebreaker: Ensure participant’s are ready for the workshop.
Let’s Talk Design: Understand UIUX in everyday language.
UIUX in Everyday Life: How design impacts our daily experiences.
Creative Corner: Groups in 5 to identify UI/UX in daily life and its benefits.
Highlight Showcases: Share the idea of what each group comes up.
Reflect and Learn: Share a takeaway from the workshop.
Finalize
By fostering rapport in the initial stages, participants gradually acclimate to the hybrid workshops and began actively sharing their ideas. These are the ideas that each group has generated.

Learning and takeaways
I conducted a retrospective meeting with tutors to collect feedback aimed at improving the planning of future workshops.
What did well?
Having UI/UX examples ready beforehand for the tutors facilitated engaging group discussions during the workshop.
The interactive format encouraged active learning and brainstorming within teams.
What can be done better?
Considering potential variations in internet speed during online sessions, having a backup plan for using Microsoft Teams Whiteboard as a collaboration tool is a MUST.
Providing more support and tips to assistants on facilitating team discussions and rephrasing members' contributions.
Gaining technical expertise in using Teams breakout rooms and whiteboard functionalities
